Real Robots Don't Drive Straight

چکیده
Over last fifteen years, robot technology has become popular in classrooms across our whole educational system. Both engineering and AI educators have developed ways to integrate robots into their teaching. Engineering educators are primarily concerned with engineering science (e.g., feedback control) and process (e.g., design skills). AI educators have different goals—namely, AI educators want students to learn AI concepts. Both agree that students are enthusiastic about working with robots, and in both cases, the pedagogical challenge is to develop robotics technology and provide classroom assignments that highlight key ideas in the respective field. Mobile robots are particularly intriguing because of their dual nature as both deterministic machines and unpredictable entities. This paper explores challenges for both engineering and AI educators as robot toolkits

Voltage Control Strategy for Direct-drive Robots Driven by Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motors
Torque control strategy is a common strategy to control robotic manipulators. However, it becomes complex duo to manipulator dynamics. In addition, position control of Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motors (PMSMs) is a complicated control. Therefore, tracking control of robots driven by PMSMs is a challenging problem. This article presents a novel tracking control of electrically driven robots wh...
متن کاملPath Smoothing Using Clothoids for Differential Drive Mobile Robots
This paper presents a new online path-smoothing algorithm for smoothing a path that consists of straight line segments and is primarily intended for differential drive mobile robots. Algorithm allows non-zero initial path curvature, which is important for replanning. Further, algorithm uses clothoid curves as primitives for path smoothing, which have inherent property that their curvature chang...
متن کاملExtremal Trajectories for Bounded Velocity Differential Drive Robots
This paper applies Pontryagin’s Maximum Principle to the time optimal control of differential drive mobile robots with velocity bounds. The Maximum Principle gives necessary conditions for time optimality. Extremal trajectories are those which satisfy these conditions, and are thus a superset of the time optimal trajectories. This paper derives a compact geometrical structure for extremal traje...
متن کاملAdaptive Voltage-based Control of Direct-drive Robots Driven by Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motors
Tracking control of the direct-drive robot manipulators in high-speed is a challenging problem. The Coriolis and centrifugal torques become dominant in the high-speed motion control. The dynamical model of the robotic system including the robot manipulator and actuators is highly nonlinear, heavily coupled, uncertain and computationally extensive in non-companion form. In order to overcome thes...
متن کاملReal-time Vision-based Lateral Drift Correction
A major drawback in many robotics projects is the dependance on a specific environment and the otherwise uncertain behavior of the hardware. Simple navigation tasks like driving in a straight line can lead to a strong lateral drift over time in an unknown environment. In this paper we propose a fast and simple solution for the lateral drift problem for vision guided robots by real-time scene an...
